Bagels Recipe

May 27, 2013Sew White

This is my friends bagel recipe which she had let me share.
It looks a lot easier than I thought it would be. I’m going to be trying it this week.

450g strong white flour,
1tsp yeast,
Half a teaspoon of salt
20g caster sugar,
40g vegetable/sunflower oil,
230ml tepid water.

Mix all together and knead for 10mins.
Leave in an oiled bowl for 1 hour.
Knead and divide into 8.
Roll into a sausage and form a ring.
Repeat with the rest of the dough.
Put on a baking sheet and leave for 30mins.

Heat the oven to 220 degrees.
Bring a large pan of water to the bill and add 1tsp of malt extract (or baking soda if you don’t have malt extract).
Simmer the water and dunk the doughnuts for 2 minutes (1 minute on each side).
Remove carefully and drain them on a tea towel.
Move the bagels to a baking sheet and brush with a beaten egg.
Bake for 20mins.

Pictures coming soon x

We had a bagel making day for work a while back, a few of us made bagels and took them in, mixing up the recipe with herbs and cheese and seeds, along with butter and cream cheese for everyone to eat them with.

    It was a happy day!
