Exercise for Lent
Exercise for Lent
This year me and my friend were trying to think of what we wanted to give up for Lent. We couldn’t agree on what to give up so we decided to take up something instead.
We decided that we would do 20 minutes of exercise each day for 40 days. It seemed like a great idea.
I thought I was fairly fit as I like walking but I was just a little bit wrong. I had put a fair bit of weight on at uni and I entirely blame the terrible canteen where a burger and chips was cheaper than a salad by nearly half. Of course I chose a cheaper, yet hot and bigger meal – I was hungry and a poor student. When I left uni I never really realised my size and it is great to finally be rid of the weight and back to my normal size 10-12 size!
The exercises I did consisted of different workouts on youtube, a ballet workout DVD and a 2 pilates DVDs.
I decided early on to have a workout I would do every couple of days as a marker of how my strength and ability was improving. I chose the Funk workout by BeFit. It is a fun easy to get into workout. I put on over the top Move Like Jagger to make me dance about a bit more, as the song on the workout isn’t very encouraging. At first I was out of breath in about 4 mins – now I can get to the end feeling great and not out of breath!
At the 10 days mark I had lost half an inch from around my waist. I don’t have scales so I don’t know how much weight I lost.
I noticed how much more hungry I was and thirsty too. I learnt that sometimes when we think we are hungry we are actually thirsty. Good to know.
I’ve also loved doing this workout from the New York City Ballet. I have it on DVD but it’s on youtube too.
This workout was fun but hard at first. You can certainly feel muscles you didn’t know you had.
It was hard to keep going everyday at first but at about day 5 I felt so much better in myself I really looked forward to the workout.
Since Lent has finished I’ve decided to keep doing the workouts – yes I like it that much!
By the end of 40 days I have lost nearly 3 dress sizes, I feel so much better, sleeping better, drinking more water and I didn’t have to give up cake! The not giving up cake bit is the most important thing here.
It was great to get fit and with only 20 mins a day it doesn’t feel like a lot but the results are so obvious!
