The Week Long Birthday Bonanza
I was pretty convinced that turning 25 wouldn’t be great and I would just feel old. I was completely wrong and I found out how lucky I am to have amazing friends and family.
My birthday started with my parents being very sneaky. They were going through my bakeware and this was very worrying to me! As I’m not really 100% able to bake and make things at the moment thanks to the M.E. my parents decided they were going to make a cake for me. They aimed big too for their first cake – a 3D cat based on our cat Tally.
I was watching them in the kitchen and gave advice where I could with recipes etc. I was asked advice on things but without knowing what they were making it wasn’t easy to suggest anything. After the cakes were cooked – 2 x 6in and 1 x 4in cakes my dad told me what they were making I helped a little with the carving and helped make the buttercream. As it was so hot the buttercream never really set enough and when we rolled out the sugarpaste it kept falling off and didn’t really stick and then the head became really wobbly. My mum came to the rescue of me and my dad as we both got a bit upset with the non sticking icing. With the help of chop sticks going through the head into the body to hold the head on and a few patches of sugar paste to cover the cracks they made an amazing cake. Chocolate whiskers worked very well too!
Me, tally and the cat cake. I loved it. It was an amazing effort and really showed the love my mum and dad have for me.
It meant a huge amount to me. Even if I was little sad I didn’t get to help very much.
On my actual birthday I had some wonderful presents including quilting books and DVDs with a few mini cake tins to enjoy! You can see the cat cake has got a lot thinner as we ate from the outside in. We couldn’t eat the face!
The funniest and oddest present was this Benedict Cumberbatch colouring book.
It is so funny and brilliant fun too – I might have started a few pictures 🙂
I love this wrapping paper. Superhero cats are amazing.
For my birthday dinner I had my most favourite dinner – Nigel Slater’s Vietnamese beef salad.
Lots of fresh greens, beef and chilli sauce. Plus a few prawn crackers were pretty good too!
In the evening I was at a BBQ with friends when they surprised me with a fabulous present, group signed card and the most amazing cake. An ice cream cake! Gorgeous Neapolitan ice cream wrapped in cake. It was so good!
It was so generous of them to give me a present and a cake. Thank you lovely friends.
Inside the fabulous cake. I will be having one of these again. Delicious x
As I had no idea my friends and family were going to be making and giving me such amazing cakes I bought the things for a cheesecake as I love cheesecake. So this would be my third cake of the birthday week. It was delicious. Blackberries with lemon cheesecake work a treat.
Yummy cheesecake with strawberries too. Lucky 🙂
On the Saturday night a few of my closest friends met up and we went to the Old Frizzle in Wimbledon. It’s my good local bar and I’m a big fan of this place. The lovely team made my own birthday cocktail which I am now insisting they out on the menu as it was incredible!
Apple, raspberry, elderflower, vodka and lime. WOW. I completely forgot they were alcoholic as they didn’t have a strong alcoholic flavour. So delicious. Ever so ever so delicious. Here is me with my cocktail!
Thank you Frizzle! It was amazing and it’s obvious how much I loved them as I had 3!
The start to being 25 has already been amazing. I think this might be a very good year x
