Blueberry and Orange Waffles

I adore waffles and I’ve been experiementing with flavours. These Blueberry and Orange Waffles are my new family favourite and often made for treats.

There is something truly beautiful about a waffle. They are simple to make and are delicious start to the day, or whenever you fancy it! They work so well cold or even reheated later. I used to take these in my lunchbox and reheat them at work. Waffle Wednesdays’ were a great way to celebrate hump day.

Blueberry and Orange Waffles

Blueberry and orange might sound like a bit of a weird combination and at first I might have agreed. I didn’t have lemon and wanted to see if orange would work. Oh it really worked. The beautiful flavours work together really well and give a great freshness and fruitness to the finished waffles.

Sew White blueberry and orange waffles
I treated myself to a Vonshef waffle maker on Amazon for £20. A brilliant investment and I have made so waffles already. It takes a while to warm up but if you turn it on before you the make the mix it’s hot enough when the mix is ready to go. Hot waffles with fruit and maple syrup is a wonderful way to start the weekend and I’m looking forward to a lot more in 2016.

The subtle flavour of orange in the waffle is so good and makes it taste like a chocolate orange if you decide to have Nutella with them.

What are your favourite toppings?

I love fresh fruit of course but when I’m in a more extravagant mode I love adding bacon and balsamic vinegar. Or yoghurt with pomegranate seeds. Smoked salmon with cream cheese oddly works very well! For a special brunch I love adding ice cream to the hot waffle. With lots of extra sprinkles and fresh berries. Usually raspberries or strawberries.

We had waffles this morning! It’s our standard Sunday family breakfast – yum! These look delicious, and I love the idea of chocolate orange waffles too, although I’ll probably use chocolate sauce as we’re trying to cut back on the Nutella 🙂
