Homemade Chocolate Ice Cream
I love ice cream and I was very happy to spend my birthday money on an ice cream maker from Lakeland. Plus it was on offer! I love chocolate ice cream and I haven’t found a plain chocolate ice cream available anywhere for ages – It’s always mixed with other things.
I decided to try a chocolate ice cream recipe from Jamie Oliver – here is the link to the recipe
It was a lot easier than I thought it would be to make but I didn’t read the ice cream maker instructions well enough and you have to put the bowl in the freezer over night before you use it. So I started a day later than planned.
Health and Safety warning for the bowl in the freezer – it gets very cold and you must not pick it up/touch it with your bare hands as it will burn. Use oven gloves to take it out of the freezer and when moving it.
The recipe was easy to follow and with the left over egg whites I made meringues which went with the ice cream very well. Straining the ice cream worked well too, to get the lumps of chocolate out which didn’t mix in properly.
I wasn’t sure how long to leave the ice cream churning for so I did it for 30 minutes – which I think was a little long as the ice cream is rock solid and takes about 10 minutes to get soft enough to scoop. The instructions said to try 25mins for soft scoop. I will next time.
Tada! Here is my first ice cream! It sure did taste good.
The next ice cream I try is going to be Basil Ice Cream by Simon Hopkinson. I saw him make it on his show and I love the idea of basil ice cream.
