The Christmas pudding success

December 31, 2014Sew White

A few weeks ago I was brave and tried making something which seemed so complicated and difficult to make. A Christmas pudding.  There are a lot of baking myths around these festive puddings and I can safely they are all untrue, except that steaming takes ages. Even though it takes a while it is easy and you can leave it to steam away and just check on it every hour. Here is my amazing Christmas pudding. I was very happy that we managed to light it and I took this glorious photo.

We served it with lashings of custard, brandy butter cream, double cream and brandy sauce, only a few of us being brave enough to have all four. Yes it’s excessive but it’s Christmas and a special pudding should be celebrated. The pudding tasted amazing (even though I forgot to add the nuts when I made it). My family said it was the best they had ever had and were very proud of me. I’ve already taken orders of puddings for next Christmas! That is rather exciting. Stir it up Sunday will be very very busy in 2015.

Here are the Christmas puds at their last brandy feeding before the big day. I loved feeding them each week and then packing them back up and storing somewhere cool. They looked gorgeous!

Here is the pudding after it’s steam on Christmas day ready to set alight and then served.

The flame stayed this glorious colour for a while. It was so exciting!
