Lake District Dairy Quark Sauces and Spaghetti Carbonara
There is a new super food around and it’s called Quark and it’s a low fat dairy cooking sauce. It works in the same way as cream but with far less fat but also contains lots of protein. Think of it as a soft cheese but fat free and easy to add to many dishes.
The Lake District Dairy Co have now bought out a range of sauces using quark. These include a Tikka and Tomato & Basil and the Garlic & Herb below. The sauces are delicious and so easy to use when making a dinner. They certainly make meal times easier and quicker.
To try out the sauce I decided the spaghetti ‘Quarkonara’ replacing the regular cream of Carbonara with the quark sauce. On average 80% less fat than regular cream. The smell of the garlic and herbs was strong. I love the smell of garlic and it was lovely to be able to smell it so much but not have garlicky breath after. The recipe was quick and the results were very tasty.
I love using parsley at the moment and in the pasta with the ham and quark sauce it was delicious. The whole meal took less than 15 minutes to make and get to the table. That is a meal make and serve time I love. I really love cooking the sauce in the pasta together so everything gets covered.
I had to include this photo of the gorgeous sunshine lit spaghetti as it goes into the pan. Love spaghetti!
Fresh parsley really is a tasty addition to pasta sauces.
Three dinners ready to go. All the bowls were licked clean and we all agreed it tasted wonderful.
Full of gorgeous flavours, the garlic and herbs were really clear flavours and it was nice to know that it was really healthy and had such a reduced amount of fat to what it would have been with cream.
My mind can’t quiet get used to something be so tasty but also fat free. I can’t wait to try the other sauces and they are now a firm family favourite and on the shopping list for when I find them in supermarkets 🙂
Thank you so much The Lake District Company for letting me try out the new Quark range. I was not paid for this review and all tasty opinions are my own.
