Equipment
Air fryer-proof dish (any oven-safe dish, for example, I used an enamel pie dish that fits into my air fryer)
½tspground cinnamon(Add this to the crumble topping)
100gblackberries(stir them through the apples in the dish)
Instructions
Making the crumble
Measure and add the flour, caster sugar and rolled oats into a mixing bowl.
75 g plain flour / all purpose flour, 75 g rolled oats, 40 g golden caster sugar
Add cubed unsalted butter to the dried ingredients.
75 g unsalted butter
Rub the ingredients together with your fingers and thumbs to create a crumble texture. Set aside until you're ready to cook. (Optionally add the ground cinnamon).
½ tsp ground cinnamon
Preparing the apples
Peel and chop the apples.
4 eating apples
Add them to the oven-proof dish. Along with the apple juice and lemon juice. Give it a stir to coat the apples.
1 tsp lemon juice, 4 tbsp apple juice
(If you are using Bramley apples (cooking apples) then you will need to cook them in the air fryer with 2 tablespoons of apple juice for 5 minutes before adding the crumble top. This is because they need more time to soften.)
Sprinkle over the crumble topping. If you have any extra crumble topping leftover you can place it into a freezer proof bag and save for later.
Baking the air fryer crumble
Bake at 170ºC / 338ºF for 12-15 minutes and golden brown.
Notes
This recipe is hugely adaptable. If you only want to make a small crumble you can save any leftover crumble topping in the freezer. You can then use it from frozen next time you want to make a crumble.Best served with custard or ice cream.Keeps very well in the fridge for up 2 days.Make the crumble topping ahead of time and store it in the freezer and bake from frozen. (It will still be malleable). As the air fryer is a dry heat it will dry the apple crumble out as it cooks so adding a little apple juice to the apples will help keep them soft and moist.
