So why settle for boring salmon when you can enjoy a delicious and healthy meal that your taste buds will love? Give the orange salmon in the air fryer a try and take your salmon game to the next level.

Oranges

Oranges are the star ingredient in thiseasy air fryer salmon. Their bright, acidic flavour pairs perfectly with the richness of the salmon. Not only do oranges add delicious flavour to this dish, but they are also packed with vitamins and antioxidants.

To extract the orange juice for the marinade, simply cut the oranges in half and squeeze the juice into a bowl. Don’t forget to zest the oranges before juicing – the fragrant oil in the zest adds another layer of flavour to the marinade.

Runny Honey

This versatile ingredient is perfect for the air fryer salmon marinade, as its sticky consistency ensures a nice caramelized flavour forms on the fish. Using runny honey will make it easier to mix with the other ingredients compared to thicker honey varieties.

To incorporate runny honey into the marinade, simply stir it together with the orange juice and zest until it’s well combined.

Soy Sauce

The combination of sweet and salty is a classic pairing in many cuisines, and it works particularly well in this orange salmon marinade. Soy sauce is also a rich source of umami, the fifth taste that enhances the flavour of a dish.

To add soy sauce to the marinade, simply mix it together with the orange juice, honey, and zest until everything is well combined. A whisk or spoon should do the trick, ensuring that the ingredients blend together seamlessly. Be sure to use low-salt soy sauce if you’re watching your salt intake.

Dill

Dill brings a burst of freshness that takes this dish to a whole new level. It is packed with flavour, but its delicate leaves work well with fish, adding a slightly tangy and earthy taste.

To use dill in the marinade, chop a handful of fresh dill leaves and mix them in with the other ingredients. You can add as little or as much as you like, depending on your taste preferences.

Air Fryer Salmon Marinade

Start making your air fryer salmon by laying your salmon fillet on greaseproof paper making a little basket to hold the salmon and marinade. Then slice and start layering up your herbs and spring onions.

To make your marinade you’ll want to mix together the juice of an orange, some runny honey and soy sauce. I also recommend adding some seasoning at this stage. A little salt and pepper works wonders for taste.

Zest an orange over your salmon fillets and then pour over your marinade.

Wrap your salmon fillets in the greaseproof paper (this helps to keep the salmon moist). Then cook your salmon in the airy fryer for about 15 minutes. It should be falling off the skin and beautifully crumbly.

Top Tips

Be mindful of the thickness of your salmon fillet. Thicker fillets will require more time to cook, so adjust the cooking time accordingly.

Making salmon in the air fryer with greaseproof paper is simple but you will need to be extra careful when you lift your salmon fillet out. It will likely be hot and you’ll need somewhere safe to put it down.

It is also worth making sure the greaseproof paper/baking parchment is wrapped down over the fish to stop it from catching on the heating element.

Finally, when the easy air fryer salmon is cooked, let it rest for a minute before serving. Make sure you drizzle over the marinade that is left on the greaseproof paper.

For a bit of added texture and flavour, consider topping your marinated salmon with sliced almonds or a sprinkle of fresh herbs like parsley or more dill. A squeeze of lemon juice can also enhance the citrusy flavours in the marinade.

Air Fryer Salmon Marinade – Substitutions and variations

Change the citrus

When it comes to the marinade, don’t be afraid to experiment with different citrus fruits. Grapefruit, lemon or lime juice can all be used in place of orange juice to create a unique flavour profile. If you don’t have fresh herbs on hand, dried herbs can be used as a substitute.

Make a spicy salmon marinade

Go bold with a spicy kick by adding in some chilli flakes or hot sauce. I’ve used freshly chopped chillis too, adding some heat to the marinade is a great way to take this orange salmon in the air fryer to the next level.

Change the fish

Want to make thiseasy air fryer salmon dish even more hearty? Swap the salmon for a meatier fish like swordfish or tuna.

Try different herbs and spices

You can also play around with different spices and herbs like garlic, thyme, or cumin to givemarinade for the salmon fillet a unique flavour.

Storing / Making ahead of time options

Now that you’ve mastered the art of whipping up a delicious salmon dish in an air fryer, it’s time to take things up a notch and pre-prepare the marinade. Not only does this save you time in the kitchen, but it also allows the flavours to meld together even more before cooking.

To make the marinade ahead of time, mix together all the ingredients and store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to two days. As the marinade doesn’t need long to marinade you can make it 2 days or 2 minutes in advance.

When you’re ready to cook the salmon, take the marinade out of the fridge and pour it over your salmon fillets. If you want you can bring it out in advance to warm up but it’s not hugely important. It mostly depends on the honey as in the fridge it might start to set a little too much to pour over.

By planning ahead and prepping the marinade in advance, you’ll have a quick and easy meal ready in minutes. And with the addition of fresh orange juice, your air fryer salmon will be bursting with bright and bold flavours.
