This festive, warming cocktail is perfect for whipping out when the carollers come calling. You can easily make this alcohol-free as well by making a cinnamon mocktail. Perfect for all the family.

The apple pie cocktail works well in both autumn and winter. The sweet cinnamon syrup and apple juice remind me of falling leaves and pumpkin pie. Pair it with lemonade or prosecco and you’re onto a winner.

Cinnamon Syrup

Cinnamon is a wonderfully wintery flavour, it’s warming and goes so well with apples at this time of year.

At this time of year, cinnamon is a particularly versatile flavour which works well with whisky, rum, gin, Cognac and more. If you want to help accentuate the cinnamon flavours of a cocktail, while adding a touch of creaminess to the mouth feel, add a measure of this Cinnamon Syrup from Liverpool-based producer, William Fox.

Ad/Gift – I love the Cinnamon Syrup by William Fox which you can buy from Masters of Malt.

Apple Juice

One of my favourite cocktail ingredients, apple juice provides the mixer. It goes very well with the cinnamon of this apple pie cocktail. You can use fresh or carton apple juice, depending on your preference.

Lemonade

The final ingredient in this cinnamon mocktail, topping your apple and cinnamon syrup with lemonade is the perfect way to finish the drink. I’ve used cloudy lemonade in this recipe and it works wonderfully.

Prosecco – if you want to add alcohol

If you want to take this to the next level or you’re making it for those over the age of 18. You can swap the lemonade for prosecco or champagne if you’re really feeling fancy.

Add spiced rum, gin or vodka

Another way of making this an apple and cinnamon cocktail more fun for the grown-ups is to add spiced rum or a shot of gin or vodka. Any will do and really takes your drink to the next level.

How to make apple cinnamon cocktail – step by step

Start by adding the ice and orange slice to the glass.

Then you need to add the cinnamon syrup to your glass and the apple juice too.

Finally, top your drink up with lemonade or with the prosecco and serve. Don’t forget to add some decorations like frozen cranberries or a cinnamon stick.

If you are adding alcohol to your apple pie cocktail then add it just before you top your drink with fizz.

Top Tips

Please drink responsibly and check out Drink Aware for more information.

Use frozen cranberries instead of ice cubes to chill your drink without watering it down. They look great and you get to snack on a tasty booze-filled berry at the end of the drink.

Chill your glass with ice cubes before you make your drink. You can pour out the excess ice cubes but it helps to make your cinnamon cocktail perfectly chilled before you drink it.

Substitutions and variations – apple cinnamon cocktail

Apple Cinnamon Bourbon Cocktail

Instead of adding vodka to your apple pie cocktail, you can add Bourbon. It’s full of flavour and the aromatic notes compliment the cinnamon syrup perfectly.

Apple Cinnamon Cocktail With Rum

Another great option is to try adding a spiced rum to the apple cinnamon mocktail. Just don’t forget, don’t serve it to anyone under the age of 18 if you’ve added rum to the mocktail.

Gin Apple Cinnamon Cocktail

For all those G&T fans, don’t think I forgot about you. If you’re not a fan of the other options, add your favourite gin to the apple juice and cinnamon. Personally, I think bathtub gin pairs perfectly in this cocktail.

Making ahead of time options for a sparkling apple mocktail

You can easily make these apple cinnamon cocktails ahead of time to save yourself time while you’re partying or prepping the piggies in blankets. Simply prep the glasses with cinnamon syrup and apple juice and then just add the lemonade or prosecco when you’re ready to serve.
