Hotel du Vin Wimbledon Autumn Menu

I visited Hotel du Vin Wimbledon to try their Autumn Menu in the gorgeous Cannizaro House on Wimbledon Common. Take a look at the incredible food we ate.

A new season brings a new menu and Hotel du Vin at Cannizaro in Wimbledon Village were kind enough to invite a group of writers to try out their delicious Autumn Menu.

This is an excuse to show off gorgeous food photos!

Tartare De Boeuf was stunning.

Finely chopped steak served with caperberries, gherkins, shallots and homemade ketchup and mustard and of course the signature egg yolk. The idea of tartare is slightly off putting I’m not going to lie, I don’t like the idea of eating raw meat. However it tasted super and a little peppery with an earthy rich tone.

Poulet noir and Jerusalem artichoke terrine.

Smoked salmon with soft boiled eggs at Hotel du Vin Wimbledon Autumn Menu tasting

Severn and Wye Smoked Salmon served with soft boiled quails eggs, shallots, capers and cornichons.

This dish was outstanding. The salmon was smooth and the smoked flavour was delicious especially with the creaminess of the egg and the sharp of the shallot.

The classic onion soup, Soupe A L’Oignon.

It was a simple yet outstanding highlight of the menu. The French soup with onions, crispy croutons and topped with Emmental cheese.

For the vegetarians the crepes aux champignons et estragon.

Baked crepes with a season mushrooms glazed under a bernaise sauce with herb topping. It was so creamy and warm which worked so well with the crispy green salad.

Boeuf Bourguignon

With winter setting in I start craving rich dishes with gravy and lots of meat. The Boeuf Bourguignon was such a delicious beef stew. I loved the mix of mushrooms with the tender beef and rich gravy.

Bouillabaisse

The Provencal fish stew was made with red mullet, monkfish , bream and king prawn. It was very filling and had a super warm and fishy  taste – but in a good way!

Hotel du Vin Wimbledon Autumn Menu lamb shank

Herdiwck Lamb Shank Tagine

The braised lamb shank with ras el hanout spice and couscous which had absorbed all the juice beautifully. The lamb was so tender and fell off the bone. Exactly how you would want it to be.

Baked Pumpkin Cheesecake

It’s pretty clear I love the puddings and this had to be one of the best puddings I have ever had! The pumpkin and cheese smoothness and crisp crunchy oreo biscuit base worked together so well and created an absolute treat. I loved that it wasn’t too sweet and really had the super pumpkin flavour.

Profiteroles

The classic choux pastry treat filled with vanilla ice cream and topped with delicious hot chocolate sauce. It’s a classic for a reason! The pastry was so creispy, the ice cream was so cold and the chocolate so hot.

The whole meal at Hotel du Vin was a feast for the senses. The food looked amazing, smelled wonderful, had brilliant textures and tasted incredible.

  2. Did you sample each and everyone of these? Because WHOA NELLY this is a spectacular menu and I can’t even pick out a favourite (though the Bourguignon looks out of this world). Am very very envious!
