PUFF PASTRY

I prefer using pre-made puff pastry, it’s much quicker and in my eyes, just as tasty as homemade puff pastry. I have used branded puff pastry and supermarket’s own brands, such as Aldi Puff pastry or Asda’s own puff pastry. All taste brilliant and all very similar so take your pick.

NUTELLA

One of the more magical chocolatey foods, Nutella, or other chocolate hazelnut spreads is the perfect ingredient to make the chocolate puff pastry snowflake. Its smooth, rich and oh so tasty.I love how easy this 2 ingredient Nutella puff pastry dessert is.

EGG

You will need an egg to glaze the pastry. This gives it a beautiful shiny layer and makes the finished snowflake a beautiful golden brown colour.

How to make Nutella Puff Pastry Snowflake – step by step

pastry circle
  • Cut 3 layers of pre-rolled puff pastry into equal-sized circles.
  • You can make a 3rd layer of pre-made puff pastry by gently pressing and rolling the leftovers from the first 2 together. (See below – you don’t need to press hard to join the pieces. I use this piece for the bottle layer so it’s not visible on the top).
layers of puff pastry and nutella in the puff pastry snowflake
  • Spread a layer of Nutella between each layer of puff pastry. In my eyes, the thicker the better.
  • Mark off a centre circle that you won’t cut into. This really helps to keep the pieces the same length.
  • Cut through your puff pastry layers into 8 and then 16 pieces so you have snowflake branches. I think of it like cut into quarters then cut those in half. Then cut all the pieces in half again to make 16.
