It’s afternoon tea time in Wimbledon and the beautiful Willow Bough tea rooms in Merton Park offer a perfect slice of homemade cake to accompany your tea.
There is a simple and unparamounted joy in a cup of tea poured from a teapot accompanied with freshly made slice of cake.
At Willow Bough in Merton Park, Clare and her team (including cake maker extraordinaire Lisa) make delicious cakes and offer a relaxing space in which enjoy them with a cup of tea or coffee. Adding to the beautiful calming feel of the tearooms there is live cello on Wednesday mornings by classical musician Sheida. The mix of fine china cups and saucers with delicate tea and beautifully light and flavoursome cakes, makes this a wonderful place to visit in Wimbledon for tea.
There is also art on the walls by local artists which adds an extra sprinkle of local love to the venue.
Afternoon tea
Visiting for afternoon tea is a pleasure and an event I will happily have time and time again. Just how beautiful is this spread of tea, cakes and of course finger sandwiches. The amount of food you get for afternoon tea at Willow Bough is very generous. Factor that in and enjoy an afternoon relaxing and eating in the beautiful sunshine filled tearooms.
The afternoon tea includes a mix of finger sandwiches including the classic cucumber, smoked salmon and cream cheese, and egg. All made fresh at Willow Bough for the afternoon tea. The pairing of their sandwiches with the cakes and tea is done so well and the flavours are all so different but compliment each other perfectly.
Cupcakes
Who am I to say no to a cupcake! Well any mention of Willow Bough and I had to mention these incredible chocolate and lavender cupcakes. The lightest and moist sponge (without being greasy) had such a strong cocoa flavour. They were topped with chocolate buttercream mixed with edible lavender. They smelled incredible. The floral and chocolate mix was a pairing made in heaven.
Tea is beautiful thing
So many delicious bakes to try
Scone Time
First of all I need to say how incredible this scone was. It is the best scone I have ever had! I’ve even been dreaming about it every day since I visited and telling everyone too. I love making scones and thought I made pretty good ones but these were just delicious. A proper scone, tea in a teapot all while I enjoyed live classic cello. I was definitely spoiled.
The big question. How do you take your jam and clotted cream? Jam first or cream first?
However you do it must taste good
An extra slice…
