Christmas Graze Table

Graze tables are a wonderful centre piece for a party. So in time for the festive season I have created a fantastic Christmas graze table.

I love a Christmas party and for a few friends this festive season I decided to put my Christmas spin on the iconic graze tables. I wanted some iconic Christmas sweets and treats but also the traditional foundations of the graze table. Including cheese and crackers along with a selection of charcuterie and olives too.

Getting started with the table

I started by rolling out a long piece of greaseproof paper the length of my table. To protect the table a little bit more I added some place mats underneath. Don’t worry if they are patterned, they will be hidden by food. and even my polka dot ones did come through a little looked pretty cute.

Christmas yule log lemon and cranberry cake with the nordic ware cake tin

Of course I would need to bake for this Christmas graze table. For the party I made a delicious cranberry and lemon cake in the shape of a yule log. I will pop the recipe up this week. I used the Nordic Ware yule log pan. It’s fantastic for making striking cakes without having to decorate them. The ornate tin turns out a beautiful cake. Sprinkle with a little icing sugar and serve. It’s that simple. The tins are also super non stick so they turn out beautifully. Do make sure you give it a good layer or two of melted butter to make it even easier to get out after cooking. The great thing about using the greaseproof paper is that you can lay the food straight out on it. Be creative and lay things out. I started with the little bowls of olives, mozzarella and sundried tomatoes. Then the cured meats and charcuterie.

I started building up the table and it looked beautiful. I used fresh cranberries as filler and to add a little colour to the table. If you have Christmas tree off cuts add them too. Eucalyptus leaves look really lovely too. A few little twinkly lights looked rather nice too amongst the food.

This was the perfect party centre piece and the movie night group really appreciated the choice and we all snacked from the table all night. Having the mix of sweet and savoury worked really and catered for everyone’s tastes. I also added roast mini sausages cooked in cranberry sauce and sweet chilli when my guests arrived. The sausages went incredible fast so I didn’t get a photo of them. Always a winner at a party.

Equipment

Ingredients

  • selection of cheeses
  • selection of cheese crackers
  • salted pistachios
  • olives
  • mini mozzarella
  • sundried tomatoes
  • selection of charcuterie
  • mini marshmallows
  • smarty
  • grapes
  • stollen
  • pistachios
  • cashew nuts
  • mince pies
  • shortbread
  • chocolate coins
  • white chocolate buttons
  • Lindt truffles
  • fresh figs
  • Olive bread or foaccia

Instructions

  • It seems like a big task when you start out but it is fun. I promise.
  • Start by rolling out a long piece of greaseproof paper the length of your table. If you want to protect the table a little bit more add some place mats underneath. Don't worry if they are patterned, they will be hidden by food.
  • In the middle of mine I added a handmade Merry Christmas tile to act as the centre piece to build the food around.
  • The great thing about using the greaseproof paper is that you can lay the food straight out on it. Be creative and lay things out. I started with the little bowls of olives, mozzarella and sundried tomatoes. Then the cured meats and charcuterie.
  • I started building it up and it looked beautiful. I used fresh cranberries as filler and to add a little colour to the table. If you have Christmas tree off cuts add them too. A few little twinkly lights looked rather nice too.
  • Let your guests lose on the table. Clearing up is great as the greaseproof paper you can just roll up and pop in the bin. Easy peasy.

I loved the mix of items I chose for this table. What else would you have added? I think next time I will have to include mini chocolate yule logs and maybe a Christmas pudding.
