This Boozy Cola Float Recipe is the best of childhood drink memories and adult boozy cocktails. A bourbon and coca-cola mix topped with vanilla ice cream is a joyous mix. It takes the lovely coca-cola float to a special cocktail level. This is a perfect summer cocktail for parties and best enjoyed in the sunshine.
What do I need to make this Boozy Cola Float Recipe
What I love about this recipe is it is so easy to make and even easier to enjoy! You only need 3 ingredients with an optional 4th ingredient if you want to add sprinkles.
You will need;
BOURBON
A nice bourbon or whisky. My preferred choice of bourbon for this coke float is a Jack Daniels or a Red Stag bourbon. It’s a lovely rich oaky flavour, delicious on it’s own but easily mixed with coke to make a great taste for this cola float.
COCA-COLA
Coca-cola is the best cola to use for this cola float recipe. It has the proper flavour we all know and love and it works with the bourbon well. You can use other brands including supermarket ones of course, but I would suggest that you keep it full fat proper cola.
Diet cola does change the taste slightly and if you’re having a treat with this ice cream cocktail then why not indulge a little bit more with full fat coke.
VANILLA ICE CREAM
For this recipe you definitely need a good flavour of ice cream. The classic is vanilla ice cream and I think it is easily the best. You don’t need the fanciest ice cream but a good mid price point one is perfect.
Boozy Cola Float Recipe Substitutions
For a simple recipe, this Boozy Cola Float Recipe has a range of substitutions you can make.
First up you can change the bourbon or whisky. There are so many beautiful drinks out there that can change the delicious finished flavour of the coke float.
Dairy free ice cream coke float
You can use dairy free ice cream for this Boozy Cola Float Recipe. I would still recommend using a strong vanilla flavour if you can, My favourite dairy free ice cream is Oatly vanilla ice cream, which is available in the U.K. at Tesco.
What alcohol goes best with ice cream?
The best alcohol that goes with ice cream has to include; Coffee Liqueur, Limoncello, Fruit Liqueurs. Like blackberry, strawberry and passion fruit. Plus of course bourbon or whisky as in this recipe.
Is Whiskey good with ice cream?
Whiskey and ice cream go so well together! They compliment each other so well, especially if you use a good vanilla ice cream.
The soft vanilla against the rich often oaky whisky is a match made in heaven.
Easy Ice Cream cocktail Substitutions for a Cola Float
You can take this idea and experiment. You can use dairy free ice cream and some work so well you can make it the normal recipe.
A dairy free ice cream cocktail usually has a slightly nutty flavour – I love oat ice creams and coconut too.
What does a Coke float taste like?
A coke float tastes like a beautiful mix of whisky and coke but with a cold addition of rich vanilla ice cream. The Coca-cola is still fizzy at the bottom. The whisky or bourbon adds an extra flavour and I find it really fun and relaxing. You don’t need much alcohol so please add it to taste.
Easy Ice cream cocktail
Cocktails are great but I think ice cream cocktails are even better. They add a coldness for starters to the drink but also can add flavour too. This easy ice cream cocktail, a coca-cola float is a perfect drink for a party or summer day.
A lot of easy ice cream cocktail only take a few minutes to prepare and with this recipe you don’t even need to shake or stir. It really is pop into the glass and enjoy.
What can I serve with this cocktail?
This classic American style diner cocktail really needs to have some great American bites to go with it.
I would recommend enjoying it with some BBQ style treats. Chicken wings, BBQ ribs, burgers, fries, potato salad, lots of fresh green salads too. Plus I think this cocktails needs popcorn too.
It would be great for a summer birthday or what about a movie night in the garden? I would love to hire a screen for the garden and have some friends round for a party. I would definitely serve these cola floats.
