Oats

Good for fibre and good for crumble, oats make this mincemeat traybake a good hearty dessert or lunchtime snack. It’s been known to help me through many hours of Christmas wrapping.

Cinnamon

Warm festive spices are key to this bake, cinnamon smells wonderful and adds the perfect flavour to the oaty crumble.

Mincemeat Crumble Slices Serving Suggestions

Hot from the oven

The best way to serve mincemeat crumble squares is when they are warm. This could be straight from the oven, or a few days later and you just need to pop them in the microwave for 30 seconds.

When serving them warm I suggest pouring over some cream or even adding a spoonful of custard to the mincemeat slices.

Serve with a scoop of ice cream

As with most warm desserts, ice cream is a great serving suggestion for a mincemeat slice with oats. I love adding salted caramel ice cream to a serving of mincemeat squares. But you can always stick to the classics, vanilla works great with this too.

Mincemeat Crumble Slices FAQS

Can you make a mincemeat crumble slice in advance?

Yes, mincemeat crumble slices are great when made in advance and frozen. Make and bake the slices and then, once they are fully cooled, wrap them individually in cling film and pop them in the freezer. Then when you’re ready to serve, pull them out and enjoy once fully defrosted.

Can you make crumble in a food processor?

Yes! You can speed up the crumbling process by popping all the ingredients in a food processor and letting them combine that way. This will be quicker than doing it by hand and you will get a more even, finer crumble.

Do you have to cook mincemeat from a jar?

Yes, you should cook mincemeat from a jar if it contains animal products like suet, but if you are using a vegan recipe then you can eat it straight from the jar. To be safe I recommend always cooking your mincemeat.

How long does an open jar of mincemeat last?

An open jar of mincemeat should be consumed within 3 to 4 days, that’s why leftover mincemeat recipes are so great as they ensure there’s no food wasted.

How do you know when a crumble is cooked?

Crumble is cooked when it’s golden brown on top, usually after about 30 minutes.

I had some mincemeat left from last year and made these slices with my grandchildren. We all loved them and it was easy for the children to get involved in baking them.
