This White Rum Elderflower Cocktail is a super easy tall drink perfect for summer days to enjoy in the sun. It is a great easy drink to make with white rum.
This cocktail is absolutely delicious. It’s so simple. So refreshing and great for warm days in the sunshine. It’s juicy and a little sparkly too. It is also pretty strong! If you want it to be a smoother longer drink reduce the alcohol to 25ml making it a single measure.
White Rum Elderflower Cocktail
I think white rum is a great spirit to use for cocktails. It mixes really well with different flavours while keeping it’s own and complimenting others. For this drink I used the beautiful floral elderflower cordial. I love elderflower in cocktails at the moment and it works so well with the rum.
As I’m adding lemonade to top up the drink I added a squeeze of fresh lemon to the mix. It really helps boost the flavour of the elderflower as well as working well with the rum. I added mint to the drink to give an earthiness to the drink. The smell of mint is really tantalising. I love it in cocktails.
Why White Rum
White rum is one of those spirits that a lot of people don’t feel comfortable using at home. Except to make the classic margaritas or mojitos. It is a strong spirit but can be used easily just like vodka or gin with a mixer. It is just as flexible in drinks as other spirits and can make a lot of great drinks.
Traditionally lime is a great ingredient to add to white rum but citrus including orange and grapefruit plus pineapple works really well too.
Herbs usually used are mint with white rum, but earthy herbs like thyme and rosemary work really well in cocktails.

White Rum Elderflower Cocktail
Equipment
- 1 tall cocktail glass
Ingredients
- 3 mint leaves
- ice cubes
- 50 ml white rum (big splash if you don't have a jigger)
- 20 ml elderflower cordial (small splash if you don't have a jigger)
- 12.5 ml fresh lemon juice (about a tablespoon)
- lemonade
- mint sprig (for decoration)
Instructions
- Smack the mint leaves. This opens up the leaves and releases the oils and the smell which adds a lovely aroma to the drink which will get you thirsty. Drop them in the bottom of a tall glass. (If you don't have mint don't worry, it will still taste great).
- Add the white rum and elderflower cordial.
- Stir in the lemon juice.
- Add the ice cubes.
- Top up with the lemonade.
- Decorate with a sprig of mint and enjoy in the sunshine.
