A super delicious and alternative dish to serve with tea. Enjoy my easy to make and easier to eat afternoon tea waffles. This is a delicious bite size treat topped with chocolate spread and fresh berries.
These might seem fairly conventional for afternoon tea but hot buttermilk waffles with melted chocolate and hazelnut spread topped with fresh fruit is incredible. I love them and they’ve become a part of my favourite nibbled for sweet canapés and events.
Easy Afternoon Tea Waffles
The waffle bites make an afternoon tea a little more quirky but a lot more tasty. Especially served on Le Creuset heart shape plate. I love this plate! It’s so cute. You can buy it here.
What can I top my waffles with?
Step by step how to make Waffles
1) Assemble ingredients ready to mix together.
2) Whisk together the buttermilk, melted butter and vanilla extract. Separate the egg and whisk the egg yolk into the buttermilk mixture.
3) Weigh out the dry ingredients and sieve into the buttermilk mix.
4) In a separate bowl whisk the egg white until it forms stiff peaks.
5) Gently fold the egg whites in to the mixture.
6) Lightly oil the waffle iron and add a good scoop to each section (judge per your own waffle iron) and cook.
Quirky afternoon tea ideas
Enjoy a delicious waffle bite with fresh fruit. They are favourites amongst my family and friends and great for everyone of all ages. This is a great base recipe for styling and adding flavours which you love. Of course you can change the fruit but you also make them savoury too if you don’t have such a sweet tooth.
I have made them with smoked salmon and cream cheese, bacon, sausages and homemade ketchup, curried chicken and even thin pieces of roast beef with a small smear of horseradish to add some fieriness to the finished Afternoon Tea Waffle Bites.
