Get baking this Christmas with my Orange, Cinnamon and Chocolate Chip Cookies. A delicious mix of flavours perfect for festive treats.
Christmas isn’t Christmas without yummy cookies and these filled with cinnamon and orange are delicious. I always add a few extra chocolate chips to the top to make them look even more picture perfect.
I love baking these as the house smells incredible and calls for a super movie night. The should last a few days in an air tight box but I can’t say for sure as they’ve never lasted in my house for more than a few hours.
Orange Cinnamon and Chocolate Chip Cookies
These cookies are so easy to make and look great. The smell of them baking will make you feel incredibly Christmassy. The lovely smell of orange and cinnamon will fill get your mouth watering too. If you want you can make a batch of dough and freeze it until you’re ready to use. Allow it to defrost and soften and then bake as usual.
Orange Cinnamon and Chocolate Chip Cookies
Ingredients
- 200 g light muscovado sugar
- 120 g unsalted butter
- 1 medium egg
- ½ teaspoon orange extract ( I used Nielsen-Massey)
- 200 g plain flour / all-purpose flour
- tiny pinch salt
- ½ ground cinnamon
- ½ ground nutmeg
- ½ bicarbonate of soda
- 60 g candied peel chopped finely
- 80 g chocolate chips to add to the mix
- 20 g chocolate chips to add to the dough balls for decorations
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 180 degrees (160 fan, gas mark 5) and line 2 baking trays with greaseproof paper.
- - Cream together the butter and sugar.
- - Stir in the egg and orange extract.
- - Sieve in the flour with the cinnamon, nutmeg, salt and bicarb.
- - Add the shopped candied peel and the 80g of chocolate chips.
- - Roll the cookies into balls. I used one heaped tablespoons of each ball.
- - Leave a space between the cookies as they will spread.
- - Place the remaining chocolate chips on top of the dough balls. These won't sink into the mix when baking (see the photo above).
- - Bake for 10-15 minutes until golden brown.
- - Leave to cool slightly before enjoying. They taste amazing warm with a glass of milk or cup of tea.

These cookies are so beautiful and taste even better than they look. Chocolate orange is so delicious anyway so combining them for festive cookies is a winner.
Enjoy with a glass of milk. They also make great gifts if packaged up and tied with a bow. Enjoy my recipe and please leave a comment if you make them. I’d love to know what you think of the flavour combo and recipe.
