This recipe is so super simple you will find yourself making it over and over. Frozen fruit is a great way to add a quick flavour and colour to a Gin & Tonic. Plus when they melt you have some boozy berries to enjoy.

Summer Berries Gin and Tonic

Frozen fruit is a great freezer item to have as it can be used for so much. Cocktails and smoothies it gets used for most in my house – plus the occasional pancake topping (warm up in a saucepan and drizzle over. Delicious) or for the bottom of the summer fruit sponge pudding.

If you allow a few minutes for the fruit to defrost in the gin, the gin will start to go pink. Plus the berries when you eat them will be super boozy. I really like creating naturally coloured cocktails. Fruit is so useful and a healthy way to colour food and drink. The Summer Berries Gin and Tonic is a beautiful drink.

Easy berry cocktail

How incredibly tempting does this look! The berries have softened into the gin and turned the finished drink pink. I love how bubbly and inviting the tonic makes the drink. They glisten in the sunshine and are calling to be drunk.

A beautiful Summer Berries Gin and Tonic

If you have some fresh berries you could add them to the side of the glass to look pretty. I used a few which had defrosted in the glass. They tastes incredibly strong of gin but in a really juicy fruity way. Or if you have some mint add that to the glasses with the ice. These are just ideas and the drink will still taste great without them.

If you don’t have ice don’t worry! The frozen fruit will keep the gin and tonic cold for a while. We removed the ice cubes so we could fit more into our tiny freezer. Then forgot to add them back in so I have tried this and it works perfectly just to use the frozen fruit.

What fruit goes well with gin?

There are so many fruits which go well with gin. If you have a strong tasting gin which a unique flavour then I would recommend a softer fruit. For example a little lemon or lime. Cucumber (although not a fruit) is a good addition for a strong flavoured gin.

If you have a normal gin then the choices are endless. I love adding blueberries, blackberries, strawberries and raspberries too. If you want a little more exotic of flavour then I would recommend trying lychees and even rhubarb. Citrus peel is also a lovely way to add flavour.

You can even run the citrus peel around the lip edge of the glass so the first sip gets an extra flavour. Plus the smell will be intoxicating and lovely. Your mouth will water from the smell alone.

What fruit do you put in Tanqueray gin?

Tanqueray gin has wonderful strong and unique taste and I find that more citrus and berry flavours go best with it. Tanqueray, although having it’s own very iconic flavour actually is well made to work with other flavours too. Fresh or frozen berries are both good choices.

What is the best way to serve Tanqueray gin?

The best way to serve Tanqueray gin is with lots of ice and fresh bubbly tonic. Of courses I would recommend frozen summer berries like in this summer berries gin and tonic recipe, too but you still can’t beat a classic.

What mixer goes best with gin?

The best mixer for gin has to be tonic. But of course there are so many other options you can choose from. Other options for mixers for gin include soda water, lemonade, Coca Cola (more unusual but it works) and of course juices too. I love a gin and pineapple juice for example.

What soft drinks go with gin?

The best soft drinks for gin include lemonade, soda and tonic. Plus it is worth trying fruit juices too. They add some extra fruity goodness to the finished cocktail. Cranberry juice and tomato juice are also very popular choices.

  • 4 tablespoons mixed frozen summer berries
  • 100 ml gin (of your choice)
  • tonic
  • ice cubes (optional)

  • If you have ice pop a few in the gin glasses. If you don't have any, don't worry the frozen fruit will keep it cool.
  • Remove the frozen fruit from the bag and pop in the glass.
  • Add 50ml of gin to each glass (or a good splash if you don't have a jigger measurer). Leave the gin to infuse with the fruits, the time it takes to get the tonic out of the fridge will be enough.
  • Top up with tonic and serve. It really is that simple!

Frozen berries are such a handy thing to have in the freezer. Ideal for smoothies and perfect for adding to your favourite gin. I keep slices of lemon and lime in the freezer for adding to my drinks, as the coldness is exactly what you need. So this idea sounds wonderful, and I really like the pink colouring. So pretty.5 stars
